THE fact that she has retained her very first client says a lot about the personable nature of Newcastle beautician Melva Holloway.

Melva started working at Depilex Beauty shortly after it opened 23 years ago.

The first woman that she `practised on' still comes in for treatments at the Hunter St Mall salon today.

`I've seen a lot of changes over the years,' said Melva, who took over the business about 10 years ago.

One of the major changes has been the number of male clients who visit the salon.

Many of the men have their backs waxed, some have their eye-lashes tinted and others just enjoy having facials.

`Nowadays, I have about the same amount of men as I do women coming into the salon,' she explained.

Melva said there had been considerable advancements in the treatment of acne and skin rejuvenation techniques.

Non-surgical `facelifts' were possible using a new product called Skin Skop.
