EYE-CARE specialist Vision Group is considering expanding its reach into other medical services including Australia's $600 million plastic surgery industry.

Chief executive Neil Rodaway said there was potential for Vision to use its business model, in which doctors took an equity stake in the company, for medical services beyond the refractive laser surgery, cataract and glaucoma treatments it currently provided.

He said the company was interested in being a part of consolidation among Australia's approximately 280 plastic surgeons, most of whom operate as sole practitioners.

Vision yesterday reported its underlying net profit was up 24% to $17.9million on revenue of $110.6million. It declared a full-year dividend of 13, fully franked, up 1 on a year earlier, payable on October 24. Vision's shares shed 0.5 to $1.885. -- ARI SHARP
